Bird Carvers Do Well At World Competition
Two of the clubs bird carvers went to Ocean City, the site of the Ward World Championship Wildfowl Carving Competition. Jim Trumpy and Don Anderson entered some of their bird carvings in the competition and placed well on several of them.
Jim has been carving for eleven years now and has entered in past shows there and won several ribbons on them. This year he entered a detailed Cedar Waxwing that placed third in the "Intermediate Division", and a Smoothie Snipe that placed second in the "Smoothie Shore Bird Division".
Don has been carving for about three years now and took out a detailed pair of Cedar Waxwings that he carved in a Bob Guge class, and a 2/3rd size Woodcock also carved in one of Bob's classes. Because they were carved in a class he has to enter them in what is called a "Bench Class" and because he hasn't entered anything before they were in the "Novice" division. He won a first place on the Woodcock and a Honorable Mention for the Cedar Waxwings.
Jim and Don also attended several seminars. One on "The Look" by Floyd Schultz. About getting the proud mean look of raptors. One on "Ornithology", and one on "Getting The Feet Right" by Larry Barth. The seminars helped both of them to understand better what/how to make their next carving much better.
