On Thursday, October 3, 1996 a meeting was held at the Janesville Senior Center, opened to the public, on wood carving. The attendance was small, but the enthusiasm of these few people was quite extensive. Cliff Drinkwine from the Capital Area Woodcarvers Club of Madison came to share his ideas on the purpose of having a club in our area. He led our small team to mounds of ideas and reasons to form a club in our community. By the third meeting, we had 27 signed on members. We've shared ideas, and learned new techniques and the best tools to fit our needs. We've all found that we love to share our ideas, teach fellow members our own carving techniques, and enjoy the fellowship of other carvers.
WE LEARN BY SHARING IDEAS
We have found that there is a hidden talent behind the doors of our communities, known as woodcarving. Woodcarving is one of the oldest hobbies known to mankind, and probably one of the most enjoyable ones.
"What we can share and learn today is what we can teach tomorrow."
WINTER IS OUR BEST TIME
Winter always seems to make us house bound. In doing so, we've found it to be our best time to get our carving done. Our monthly meetings help us to get our and enjoy each other's company, to share those ideas and techniques. You need not be an avid carver to be a part of the club - many of our members are beginners themselves.
MORE ABOUT THE CLUB
Club dues are on a yearly basis of $10.00 per person, or $15.00 for a family. These dues are used for the cost of preparing and mailing the monthly newsletter, building an educational library of woodcarving books and videos, and presenting educational programs and demonstrations. We are a non-profit organization, with hopes to better our communities with our talents and skills.
